Birmingham City, Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United have all joined Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City in making it through to the FA Continental Tyres League Cup quarter-finals.

Results for Wednesday 12 December

Group 1 North

Birmingham City 0-0 Bristol City (1-3 on pens) (Att: 363)
Sheffield United 3-1 Leicester City WFC (Att: 234)

A goalless draw for Birmingham City was good enough to prevent Bristol City taking their place in the last eight but the Vixens did win a bonus point in the shoot-out, as Katie Rood, Poppy Pattinson and Ella Rutherford all converted.

Sheffield United struck three first-half goals in the victory over Leicester City. Chloe Dixon hit the opener, with Sophie Jones and Danielle Cox extending the advantage, while Ella Franklin-Fraiture pulled one back.

Group 2 North

Reading 1-1 Liverpool (4-5 on pens)

Reading drew for the second time in four days with Liverpool but the Reds took the extra point on penalties. Brooke Chaplen and Fara Williams both hit the bar for the Royals before Jo Potter’s 64th-minute corner was headed home by Rachel Furness. Moments later, Courtney Sweetman-Kirk was sent through to chip the ball over Rachel Laws for the leveller and when it came to spot-kicks, Sophie Bradley-Auckland netted the decider for the Reds.

The top two places in the group are yet to be decided and the Merseyside derby is still to be played but Manchester United will reach the quarter final with a win at Everton tonight.

Group 1 South

Tottenham Hotspur 0-5 Chelsea
Yeovil Town 1-4 Brighton & Hove Albion (Att: 224)

Brighton went through with all three points at Yeovil, where Ellie Brazil and Danielle Buet set them on their way with a goal each before the break. Kayleigh Green and Bethan Roe both came off the bench to add to the lead, Emily Syme getting a consolation for the hosts.

Chelsea finished with five wins from five and as many goals away at Tottenham. Deanna Cooper and Ali Riley both notched their first Chelsea goals in the opening 20 minutes, Karen Carney side-footed home a through-ball by Adelina Engman just after half-time and Beth England added a brace, her first coming at the second attempt after Emma Gibbon tipped her header onto the bar.

Group 2 South

Charlton Athletic 0-2 West Ham United (Att: 202)
Millwall Lionesses 1-3 Arsenal (Att: 463)

West Ham progressed by seeing off Charlton with two goals in the second period. Rosie Kmita scored off an Alisha Lehmann cross right at the start of the second-half kick-off, Lehmann later finding the net herself.

Arsenal won the group but had to come from behind at Championship basement side Millwall to do so. Gabby Ravenscroft gave the Lionesses a shock lead but the Gunners blew them away with three goals in a five-minute spell. Vivianne Miedema equalised on 55 minutes, Ruby Grant rifled in the second and Leah Williamson ended the goal spree on the hour mark.
