Chelsea overcame an early setback by Liverpool to eventually net a late winner in the Barclays Women’s Super League game at Kingsmeadow.

Liverpool threatened to do the double over Chelsea, as inside two minutes Emma Koivisto turned home Natasha Dowie’s cross at the far post.

Faye Kirby saved at full stretch to deny Sam Kerr but four minutes before the break, Niamh Charles headed in from Ève Périsset’s corner to level the score.

Guro Reiten had the ball in the Reds’ net in the last ten minutes but was called offside.

However, in the 86th minute, Jessie Fleming hit the woodwork and Kerr netted the rebound.

The result put Chelsea within four points of leaders Manchester United with two games still in hand.
