Blackburn Rovers Ladies have taken Manchester United goalkeeper Fran Bentley on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old is a product of Manchester United’s academy but had a spell with Manchester City, with whom she won the WSL Development League Cup, whilst also appearing in the first-team squad on two occasions.

She missed the majority of the 2019-20 season due to an arm injury picked up on England U-18s duty.

Head coach Gemma Donnelly told rovers.co.uk: “Fran’s a great shot-stopper and has a really fantastic attitude to training, striving to be the best that she can.

“We look forward to welcoming Fran into the Club and it really adds fantastic competition amongst our goalkeepers this season.”

Bentley said: “After a bit of a break from football, it’s good to get going again,” she continued. “It’s great to get back on the pitch and show what I can do.

“I’m really excited. After having such a long time out I just want to play some games and enjoy it again.”
