Bayern narrowly beat Arsenal Women in UWCL Q-F 1st leg

Arsenal were narrowly beaten 1-0 by hosts Bayern Munich in their UEFA Women’s Champions League Quarter-Final 1st leg.

Bayern Munich 1-0 Arsenal (Att: 20,000)

Roma 0-1 Barcelona (Att: 39,454)

Bayern took the lead late in the first half watched by a 20,000 crowd, as a cross by Maximiliane Rall saw Lea Schuller beat Manuela Zinsberger with a strong header.

After the break, the Gunners’ Catlin Foord curled the ball against the far post and a header by Stina Blackstenius was cleared off the line by Saki Kumagai.

Schuller also cleared off the Bayern goal line from Leah Williamson, while Zinsberger made a double save to deny Rall.

The second leg is at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday 29 March, kick-off 8pm.

Roma attracted a record crowd for a women’s game in Italy of nearly 40,000 but Barcelona’s Salma Paralluelo got the only goal in the first half.

Roma goalkeeper Camelia Ceasar made a number of saves to keep the debutants in the tie.
