Arsenal have passed a new milestone on Wednesday evening – they have now scored 100 goals in the Women’s Super League under Renee Slegers.
When Stina Blackstenius scored her second of the evening at the Emirates against Leicester City, it marked a century of strikes for the Gunners since October 2024 – when Slegers took interim charge of the team.
Blackstenius’s brace plus goals from Frida Maanum and Smilla Holmberg put Arsenal 4-0 up at half-time as they sought to close the 11-point gap between themselves and WSL league leaders Manchester City.
It was an Arsenal side with a slightly unfamiliar look; Leah Williamson, Mariona Caldentey and Alessia Russo were all rested and on the bench.
But they all came on during the second half, with Williamson and Mariona both grabbing goals, and Holmberg getting her second of the night to make it 7-0.
Also on the bench was 16-year-old Mia Dixon – the first time she had been named in a first-team matchday squad.
Arsenal had started the day in fourth place, with three games in hand on the rest of the chasing pack due to their UEFA Women’s Champions League commitments.
They lead Lyon 2-1 after the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals, and will head to France for the second leg on Saturday.
Frida Maanum: 100 appearances for Arsenal
Maanum also had a special reason to celebrate on Wednesday evening, with a goal and two assists to mark her 100th appearance for the side.
There was less to celebrate for Leicester City, however, who remain rooted to the bottom of the table.
This season, with the WSL expansion, the team finishing bottom of WSL1 will play off against the team finishing third in WSL2 for the right to compete in the top flight in 2026-27.
