Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of Manchester City goalkeeper Marie Hourihan on loan until the end of the season.
The 30-year-old becomes Albion’s third women’s team signing of the January window, following the arrivals of Chloe Peplow and Amanda Nilden earlier this month.
The goalkeeper (known as ‘Marge’ to her teamies) is available to make her Albion debut against Doncaster Rovers Belles on Sunday afternoon, but is ineligible to feature against her parent club when the Citizens visit Culver Road in the SSE Women’s FA Cup 4th round.
Women’s first-team manager Hope Powell said, “We are delighted to strengthen our options in the goalkeeper position with the signing of Marie.
“She is a player who will bring a wealth of experience, having played at the highest level for Chelsea and Manchester City, as well as for the Republic of Ireland.
“I am very much looking forward to welcoming her into the squad.”
Hourihan began her career with Birmingham City before moving onto Chelsea in 2013. She spent two years with the west London club before moving to Manchester City ahead of the 2016 FA WSL 1 season.
