Charlton Athletic have signed Georgia Griffin from Southend United, after the 17-year-old, netted an amazing 79 goals in just 41 matches over two seasons in the Essex County Girls’ League.
After a successful trial match, where the Addicks say she was the stand-out player, Griffin joined the club’s development side to bolster their strikeforce.
Griffin told cafcwomen.co.uk she was looking forward to “challenging myself” with a step up the leagues.
“It’s completely different to grassroots [football],” she said after a particularly intense training session Sunday. “It’s intense but good, I go home feeling really good.
“It was a little bit easy at grassroots so I thought it was time to challenge myself. My manager helped me find some clubs to trial with. I came to trial here and really liked it.
“I’m not expecting to do as well as I did at grassroots but I just want to settle in for the first bit of the season and really grow as a player as the season develops.”
Hopefully I can score some goals here – that’d be really good. I need to work on that [though] because all those 50 goals pretty much came from inside the box and here they’re testing me from outside the box and that’s not me!.”
