Kelly Smith/ England & Arsenal Ladies

Arsenal star Kelly Smith was out for a slice of revenge on her return to the England women’s team for Saturday’s game against bogey team France in Paris…

By Tony Leighton

Striker Smith was one of England ’s scorers in their dramatic penalty shoot-out defeat by the French in the quarter-final of last year’s World Cup.

And Les Bleues, who England have not beaten since 1974, then won 3-0 against Hope Powell’s team at the Cyprus Cup earlier this year.

However, Smith, who has missed the last four internationals through injury willa lso miss this one after picking up a muscle strain. She told She Kicks: “The girls will have the bit between their teeth to prove a point or two.

“France were admittedly the better team on the day in the World Cup quarter-final, and then they got the better of us again in Cyprus .

“So although it’s a friendly on Saturday we want to win it – it’s the first game in our build-up to Euro 2013 and we want to start our preparations with a good result.”
