She Kicks Back – Gemma Voce (Coventry Sphinx)

Keeper Gemma Voce played a big part in her team’s West Midlands League Divisional Cup Final success this season, scoring and saving a penalty.

5. Team Supporter/Fave player? Newcastle United. Has to be King (Alan) Shearer, everybody loves a goalscorer!

6. Occupation/or what you are studying? Bar manager

7. Are there other footballers in your family? Erm… have you seen my family, lol. Jokes aside, my brother always used to plonk me in goal so he and his mates could whack balls at me and the claim to be good

8. Favourite game you have played in (and why)? Has to be West Midlands League Division 1 South Cup Final. Scoring and saving a penalty is one of my best feelings ever in football!

9. Your best attribute as a player? I’m very vocal in goal and supportive of my defence

10. What are your ambitions in football? To play at the highest level possible but age is not on my side

11. Who has been the biggest influence in or on your footballing career? Myself – I’ve never stopped believing I can achieve great things on the pitch and hopefully I can carry that on with me and teach some of the young ones

12. What is the best thing about playing for your team? Our great team spirit and the way we fight for each other

13. If you got to design your team’s kit, what would it look like? Black and white, for obvious reasons (Newcastle)

14. Do you listen to music to get you motivated, or while you train – if so, what tracks? I don’t need motivating to play the game I adore. I love football, playing or watching

15. Who, that plays for your team, should we know more about and why? Our little pocket rocket, Jessia Fliht (Flinty). She’s tiny but is explosive going forward and a terrier defending
