Sunderland’s Mel Reay has been awarded the Barclays Women’s Championship Manager of the Month trophy for January by the LMA Panel.
Sunderland were the only club to earn the maximum six points available through January with a late comeback in the North East derby against Durham earning a 3-2 victory, followed by an impressive 3-1 away win at Birmingham City.
Upon receiving the Manager of the Month trophy Reay said: “We’ve had a really successful month in terms of results on the pitch and I think it’s a reward for all the staff who work really hard behind the scenes. There’s no stone goes unturned and the players are now putting in performances that are getting positive results which is pleasing for everyone at the football club.”
Chair of the League Managers Association panel Faye White MBE added: “Sunderland’s confidence has grown dramatically after three straight wins, including two excellent performances in January.
“Mel has her team playing attacking football, demonstrated by Sunderland registering six different goal scorers across the two games, and will be looking forward to the test of facing league leaders London City Lionesses this weekend.”
