Six Lionesses plus Sarina Wiegman and Emma Hayes have been nominated for The Best FIFA Football Awards 2022.
Leah Williamson, Keira Walsh and Beth Mead have all been listed among the contenders for Best FIFA Women’s player award.
Mary Earps is a nominee for the Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper and Alessia Russo’s stunning goal in England’s UEFA Women’s EURO semi-final win over Sweden is up for the FIFA Puskás Award, which recognises the standout goals of the year. Three of the eleven nominated strikes are by women, with Amandine Henry and Salma Paralluelo also shortlisted.
Lionesses head coach Sarina Wiegman is up for the Best FIFA Women’s Coach for a sixth consecutive year, having won the award in 2017 and 2020.
She is up against two other English coaches in Chelsea’s Emma Hayes, who won the award last year, and Canada’s Bev Priestman, who was formerly an England Women senior team assistant coach.
Two expert panels for men’s and women’s football decided on the nominees for the players’, goalkeepers’ and coaches’ awards, with public voting now open and the three finalists for the seven categories being announced in early February.
The public can vote via FIFA+ and it will run until 11pm on 3 February 2023.
