The London FA report on their Girls’ County Cup Finals Day, which took place at Cray Valley FC in the South East of the capital on Sunday 11th May 2014.
This season’s cup competitions ran at U-12, U-14 and U-16 age groups. The finals day promised to be a great exhibition of girls’ football in London and it was only the second time that a Girls’ Finals Day has taken place for a number of years with the London FA.
The U-12 final kicked off at 10:30am and was contested between Long Lane Girls and Hampstead Youth. The match was an exciting spectacle with Long Lane going 1-0 up midway through the first half and Hampstead had a chance to equalise with a free kick which hit the woodwork. However, it was another set-piece which sealed the win for Long Lane and was scored from around the halfway line. Player of the match was Shannon Donnelly (Long Lane).
Tottenham Hotspur U-14s
The U-14 final was an even closer affair and this match went into extra-time. Hampstead were leading the game 2-1 up until the dying seconds of normal time, when Tottenham Hotspur scored an equaliser. Spurs came out re-energised by their late leveller and scored two more goals to make the final score 4-2. Player of the match was awarded to Amy Nash of Tottenham Hotspur.
The final match of the day was the U-16 final which was played between Bealonian Girls and S &T Academy Girls. This was a fantastic match to finish the day on and both teams played some great football at times. The half time score was 2-0 to Bealonians but the wind played a part in this game as well as a motivational half-time team talk and S & T Academy girls came out with fighting spirit. After pulling one goal back, S & T kept piling on the pressure and after some lovely build-up play on the left hand side, followed by an excellent cross, the equaliser came from a header. This was enough to give S & T Academy the edge and quickly after they got the winner. Player of the match went to Zhane Amoaten from S & T Academy.

A massive thank you must go to all the teams who took part on the day, to the managers and coaches of the teams and also to Cray Valley FC who hosted the finals day.
