Vivianne Miedema won the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year 2021 award after coming second to Lucy Bronze last time.

The leading all-time scorer for both her country and the WSL, Miedema also netted the most goals ever at a Olympic women’s tournament in Tokyo this summer.

Arsenal’s 25-year-old Netherlands striker won the award ahead of Australia and Chelsea forward Sam Kerr and third-placed Spain and Barcelona midfielder Alexia Putellas.

Also on the five-player shortlist for the BBC World Service award had been Canada and Paris St-Germain defender Ashley Lawrence, plus Norway and Barcelona winger Caroline Graham Hansen.
