Doncaster Rovers Belles 2-1 Sunderland
Doncaster defeated Sunderland in the battle of the top-flight’s bottom two sides, in a tie played at Sheffield FC.
Brooke Chaplen had the best chance for the visitors before Lauren Cresswell’s corner saw Leandra Little head the Belles in front.
Nicola Hobbs made a point-blank save to keep out Chaplen before Sunderland equalised on 62 minutes, Keira Ramshaw netting after Rachel Furness knocked down Lucy Staniforth’s flag kick.
Cresswell blasted over when set up by Emily Simpkins, although the hosts secured the win as Jess Sigsworth crossed for Cresswell to nod home 8 minutes from time.
Oxford United 0-2 Birmingham City
Oxford were up against higher division opposition in Birmingham City, who progressed and kept yet another clean sheets in the process.
City’s Andrine Hegerberg was denied on the line by Laura Rafferty and then by keeper Demi Lambourne from the resulting corner.
But 10 minutes before half-time, Lambourne pulled Isabelle Linden down in the box and Hegerberg converted.
After the break, Ini Umotong twice went close to levelling but Sophie Baggaley saved the first effort and the second from Ella Franklin-Fraiture’s through ball on 79 minutes hit the post.
Moments later, Melissa Lawley exchanged passes in the box and rolled the ball past substitute keeper Hannah Cox to confirm the victory.
Yeovil Town 1-3 Notts County
WSL leaders Yeovil Town bowed out at home to Notts County, for whom Ellen White struck twice in the first uarter of the match.
White scored her first goal after just 2 minutes, slotting the ball past Beth Howard from Dani Buet’s floated free kick.
County doubled their lead after 22 minutes, Chelsea Weston finding White with the perfect cross allowing her to calmly nod in her second.
Fern Whelan bagged a third for Notts County midway through the second half, rising above a crowded box to head in a Jo Potter corner.
Minutes later, Ellis Hillman sustained an injury which resulted in her being stretchered off in a neck brace, before Nadia Lawrence pulled one back for Yeovil on the 75-minute mark.
Saturday afternoon had seen Arsenal, Liverpool, London Bees, Manchester City and Sheffield FC reach the last eight.
