Cossens And Thornton Sign For Leicester

Cossens is a former England U-19 and Yeovil Town player and Leicester believe she is sure to bring a great pedigree and experience to their first team squad.

She joins Jonathan Morgan’s side as Leicester return to the FAWPL Northern Division for the first time in 4 years and the squad will be able to draw on her WSL and international experience. Taking up the role of play-maker, Shauna is raring to go having had a year out of football beginning her university studies.

Cossens said; “I am delighted to sign for Leicester City Women and am looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Northern Prem. Leicester are a club with good values and with a great vision for the upcoming season.

Morgan commented; “Bringing Shauna to the club is a strong signing for Leicester. We believe she will bring a lot of experience and improve our squad significantly. From the moment we first started talking to Shauna, the club knew instantly she would be a great fit. After watching her in the early part of pre-season, Shauna shows a great amount of determination and passion when playing and fits in to our style of play, which was great to see.”

Centre back Thornton rose through the Leicester City Centre of Excellence and moved to Notts County in 2014.

Morgan said; “Cala is someone we have known about for sometime as she has risen through our very own academy, then going on to play Super League football with Notts County. Her quality from a young age was evident hence why Notts County came in for her when she left the Centre of Excellence. Adding Cala to the squad will give us great depth within the defence which was an area we wanted to strengthen.”
