Scotland Squad For Iceland Qualifier

Scotland’s coach, Anna Sigenul, has named her squad for the side’s final UEFA Euro qualifier. It is set to be an exciting tie with Scotland looking to give the group leaders a much sterner test after an uncharacteristically tame showing when they lost 4-0 to Iceland in Falkirk, in June.

Scotland have confirmed a place in the play-off at the very least, but could reach the finals without kicking a ball, it all comes down to the results from the other groups on 15th and 16th September. The group winners and six best runners-up progress directly to the finals, with the last two second-placed teams entering the play-off.

Manchester City’s Jane Ross is included and will spearhead the Scottish attack. She is second top scorer in the qualifying campaign, her eight goals only rivaled by Iceland’s Harpa Thorsteinsdóttir.

There is a first senior call-up for Hibernian forward – and former Scotland women’s under-19 captain – Abigail Harrison, while Seattle Reign defender Rachel Corsie misses out due to injury.

Jen Beattie, who on Sunday scored to take City through to the Conti Cup final, will also look to gain a century of caps for her national side. She’ll join the likes of Kim Little, Gemma Fay and Joanne Love (also included in the squad) in reaching this significant and impressive landmark.
