Northern Premier League

Blackburn Rovers are the new leaders after their comprehensive victory over Bradford. Their unbeaten run was extended with four goals and a clean sheat from Blackburn,goals came from Faye McCoy, Lynda Shepherd, Natasha Fenton and Ella Toone, who will be joining the Young Lionesses in Jordan for the U17 Women’s World Cup. 

Their [Blackburn Rovers] top spot was confirmed when Nottingham Forest pipped the previous leaders, Middlesborough with only one goal to split the sides.

There were plenty of goals elsewhere in the championship with Newcastle United overcoming Huddersfield Town 6-2 at home, with Magpies players Shannon Etherington and Sophie Williams scoring a brace each. 

Leicester City opened up their game against West Bromwich Albion with a 28th minute goal from a penalty, which was then equalised 30 minutes later by Kelly Darby. It was looking like West Brom would come away with a point but in the 90th minute it was Leicester who were handed the three points via Kayleigh Hiller’s long distance shot.

Southern Premier League

Down in the Southern Premier League Tottenham Hotspurs continued their unbeaten start to the league with a huge 6-1 victory over Lewes. Striker Bianca Baptiste claimed a hat trick among the six Spur’s goals, Rebecca Carter managed to find the back of the net as consolation for Lewes.

While Spurs have enjoyed a great run of form so far this season, Charlton Athletic have made sure that they’re heard when it comes to keeping up with the North London side. They maintained their second place status with a 3-0 win over Swindon Town.

There have been braces and hat tricks up and down the WPL this weekend and it didn’t end there as Coventry’s captain Natasha Lynch managed to net three in the side’s 8-1 thrashing of Portsmouth, Maz Gauntlett also bagged a brace for the winning team.

Bekah Tonks managed to rescue a small bit of pride for Pompey when she scored her first goal for the senior squad during the nine-goal thriller.
