Hosts Cameroon are into the African Women’s Nations Cup semi-finals following a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe on Friday. Michelle Akaba scored just 2 minutes in and got her second shortly after the interval.
South Africa leapfrogged Egypt for the Group A runners-up spot when thrashing them 5-0. Andisewe Mgcoyi’s goal on 40 minutes was the first of the finals for Banyama Banyama and the difference between the teams at the break. Refiloe Jane, Jermanine Seoposenwe, Nothando Vilakazi and Linda Motlhalo added one each in the second half.
Group B was won by Nigeria on goal difference, after they put four past Kenya. They were 2-0 up in 7 minutes as Ngozi Okobi and Faith Ikidi struck, with Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie later getting on the scoresheet. The Super Falcons will now face South Africa in the last four.
Ghana’s 3-1 result over Mali saw them finish in the Group B second spot but they will now be up against the host nation. Linda Eshun scored on half time for the Black Queens and Samira Suleman doubled their lead midway through the second half. Elizabeth Addo converted a penalty before Mali got a late consolation.
The semi-finals will take place on Tuesday 29th November, with the 3rd place play-off on 2nd December and the final the next day.
