Wolfsburg will face Barcelona in the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-finals next Tuesday after the German side thrashed Glasgow City, while Barca edged an all-Spanish tie.
Wolfsburg were effectively into the semi-finals by half-time in their tie with Glasgow City, with Ingrid Syrstad Engen and Pernille Harder each bagging a brace.
Both Harder’s strikes were from outside the box, while Engen had a free header before also later netting from close range.
Harder completed her hat-trick after the restart and although Lauren Wade replied from distance, Felicitas Rauch then made it 6-1, with Harder getting her fourth before City conceded two late own-goals in a 9-1 scoreline.
Barcelona and Spanish rivals Athletico Madrid played out a goalless first half, with Lieke Martens closest to breaking the deadlock but denied by Aisatou Tounkara’s goal-line chearance.
Asisat Oshoala passed up two good second-half chances for the Catalan side but the match was decided in their favour 10 minutes fro time through Kheira Hamraoui.
