Forest say that A-Licence coach Abercrombie has vast experience in the women’s game, having previously managed at Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and most recently at West Bromwich Albion.
He steered Albion to the FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division title in his second season after helping the team stave off the threat of relegation in his first campaign. He left West Brom after being offered a coaching opportunity in the USA and he has spent the past season there coaching young female football hopefuls. Graham and his family have now decided to return to the UK and he is looking forward to taking the reins at Forest for a second time after a short but successful previous period with the club.
He told the club website: “I’m delighted to be heading to Nottingham Forest Ladies after 12 months out in the US. The players have ambition, the staff have ambition, the committee has ambition and I’ll be looking to add players who match that ambition. With that characteristic in place throughout, we’ll all work as hard as possible and see where that leads us.”
“Every club will be aiming for the top spot in the league but we are under no illusion and fully understand that our club has been at the wrong end of the league for a few years now. We’ll have to spend time building the correct culture to allow progress and success for the long-term. Once that correct culture is in place, there will be a solid platform to open up the pathways for success and we all should be looking forward to those days.”
