Gillingham drew at Crawley Wasps and Oxford United won 5-0 at MK Dons in The FA Women’s National League Southern Premier on Wednesday.
Crawley would have returned to the top of the table with a victory but two Gillingham equalisers left them goal-difference behind leaders Watford.
Natasha Stephens headed in a Naomi Cole cross to break the deadlock for the Wasps 10 minutes into the second half but Ellie Jeffkins rifled in a free-kick leveller on 88 minutes.
More late drama followed as Cole quickly restored the hosts’ advantage with a lob, only for Grace Harrison to finish similarly in added time to give the Gills an impressive draw.
Elsewhere in the league, Oxford United blew away MK Dons with a four-goal first-half performance at Stadium MK. Cheryl Williams doubled her tally for the night with a penalty after the break for a 5-0 scoreline, Ellie Searle, Emily Allen and Kayleigh Hines having got the other goals.
Meanwhile, Division 1 South East side Leyton Orient began their defence of the Reposs Isthmian Women’s League Cup with a 14-0 victory at Burgess Hill Town, who play three levels lower than the O’s. Otesha Charles led the way with a four-goal haul, Sophie Le Marchand and Egle Trezzi each hit a hat-trick.
