Prolific goalscorer Jemma Tewkesbury recently left Yeovil Town for Southampton Saints in the Premier League Division 1 South West and last week scored on her debut.
SK: Why the move to Southampton and what do you hope to achieve with the Saints?
JT: Football is a huge part of my life and to sit on the bench week after week is the hardest thing for me to do. I still have a lot to offer and need to play for a team week in week out and Southampton is a club that is heading in the right direction.
SK: What it did mean to you to experience the WSL with Yeovil?
JT: Yeovil has been a club close to my heart having spent eight seasons there and for them to achieve WSL status has been amazing for the club. The WSL is an amazing league and I can only see it growing from now on.
SK: Tell us about the most memorable moment(s) in your career to date.
JT: Breaking the Premier League goal scoring record with 52 goals.
SK: Who stands out as your most talented team-mate and toughest opponent?
JT: The most talented teammates would be Katie Sherwood and Nat Haigh. Toughest opponent was Rachel Edwards, not only because it was against Yeovil but also because of her competitive nature.
SK: Have you ever scored a real ‘worldy’ goal….or embarrassed yourself trying?
JT: Back when I was playing for Dorchester U-14 girls and scored from a free kick on the half way line (youth pitch) in the top corner for the winning goal.
