The Lionesses’ Lucy Bronze has been named the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year, the first ever English winner of the award.
In a vote by top coaches and journalists in the women’s game, Bronze saw off Lyon team-mates Ada Hegerberg and Amandine Henry to take the honour.
She’s only gone & done it! This is MASSIVE. Well done @LucyBronze you star. This is just the start for the #Lionesses & 🏴! #UEFAWomensPlayeroftheYear pic.twitter.com/pYrrqRBs5u

Like the other contenders, the Lionesses star was unable to attend the awards ceremony due to a clash with the women’s football calendar, something which is apparently being put right from next year.
Bronze won the Silver Ball as the second-best player at this summer’s World Cup and also scored one of the goals of the tournament with a fantastic volley.
