Arsenal begin their FA WSL 1 campaign away at Notts County on Thursday 2nd April, hoping to improve on last season’s final table position. Jordan Nobbs has been speaking to Andy Lamb ahead of the new campaign.
AL: How important was signing the new contract with Arsenal ahead of the new season?
JN: I have been at Arsenal since I was 17 and it is a club that I have loved, grew up with and always wanted to play for, so I think giving a bit more of my future to them was a bit of a ‘no brainer’. I am very settled at the club and how things are going. Hopefully I can keep on improving as a player and I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for being a player at Arsenal and being around some of the best players in the world. I am very thankful I am settled for the next few years at the club.
AL: What are you learning from Pedro as a manager?
JN: I think he brings a different style of play – he wants to play the Arsenal way and brings with him a lot of experience from different countries. As soon as he arrived he knew what he wanted and what players he wanted, so I really look up to him as a manager and it shows how talented he is as we managed to finish 5 points off Liverpool at the end of the season.
It shows what he can do and hopefully bring to the team for this season.
AL: How did you feel about Kelly Smith’s retirement from international football?
JN: It was a surprise though she has to do what’s best for her. She’s had one of the best careers and if any player could have the opportunity to have a career like hers they would grab it with both hands.
For us still to have her at Arsenal is still a massive plus and she will bring her experience and get some minutes with us as well. She is still one of the best players around and anyone would want her on their team.
AL: Have you set any personal goals this season, Canada perhaps?
JN: I just want to have a good season, the main aim is World Cup and being a major part of that but also to work hard at Arsenal being another main goal and hopefully shining out in the league a bit.
This year will be a big year for everyone and everyone will be on their toes fighting for places, so just stepping up to the mark and hopefully getting more goals.
