Manchester City had been beaten at the death in their first Women’s International Champions Cup match but scored twice late on to defeat Atletico Madrid in the 3rd place match.

Georgia Stanway had put City ahead in the first period against tournament hosts North Carolina Courage but Ellie Roebuck had to show some fine form to keep the American side at bay.

After a 70-minute storm delay with 15 minutes left to play, McKenzie Meehan equalised and Jessica McDonald won it for Courage in stoppage-time.

In the third place play off against Atletico, Lauren Hemp opened the scoring in the first half but Virginia Torrecilla and Angela Sosa turned the match in the Spaniards favour.

However, Janine Beckie levelled with 7 minutes to go before Tessa Wullaert fired home with the last kick of the game.

Lyon then won the tournament with a single-goal success over North Carolina, Lucy Bronze with the assist and Dzsenifer Marozsán with the wonderful finish.
