Blackburn Rovers have announced the signing of midfielder Lauren Thomas from Liverpool.

The 19 year-old becomes Rovers’ second summer arrival following on from the signing of Rhema Lord-Mears.

Right-sided midfielder Thomas started her career at Liverpool’s Regional Talent Club at the age of 13, progressing through the ranks before moving up into the Development team, with whom she won the league title.

The highly-rated youngster also made five first-team appearances for the Reds last season, coming on for her WSL debut away to Reading in December.

Thomas boasts international experience, representing England at U-17 and U-18 levels.

She told the club’s website: “I’ve had experience with Liverpool first-team and playing against women is obviously a lot different to playing in the Development league.

“It’s just being patient waiting for my opportunities. I got those and I tried to take them as best as I could. Now I feel [signing for Rovers] is a step forward for me to push on now.

“I just want to improve in general, become quicker, more physical and do all the things on and off the pitch that every player would want to do.”
