Leafield Athletic captain, Jess Lippiatt, reflects on a positive first Premier League campaign in which her side achieved a third-place finish.
So as another hard-fought season comes to an end, we can sit and reflect on what overall was a good one with many positives; a record number of points amassed for Leafield Athletic in FA WPL Midlands Division 1 and most goals scored at this level for the club.
With a good combination of youth and experience, in most games we have been more than competitive. The only team to win more games than us [Loughborough Foxes] went on to win the league, so in many ways we know we are not that far away. In fact, at one stage we even had an outside chance of the title, but it turned out not to be our year.
Ultimately though, when it mattered I suppose our inability to take our chances cost us. We put teams under pressure and created opportunities, but failed to capitalise when we were on top.
Next season we can look to push on again and strengthen the squad, building for the future. Leafield is an ambitious club in the progress of improving off field facilities and we need to ensure as players we live up to this on the pitch.
Team spirit is excellent and if we add some clinical finishing with a bit more consistency, then we have every chance of having another successful season, hopefully challenging for the league title and promotion.
