The Kent FA reports it’s delight at welcoming The FA Women’s Cup trophy itself, as fans and players enjoyed the Kent Girls and Ladies League finals on Sunday 17th May.
With the Women’s World Cup coming up in June, football fans in England can look forward to another momentous occasion in the women’s game in August as The FA Women’s Cup takes place at Wembley Stadium connected by EE for the first time in its history.
This year’s showpiece final will see Notts County Ladies take on Chelsea Ladies.
Tickets for the Final, which will take place on Saturday 1 August 2015 (3pm KO) and are on sale now with the match also being shown live on BBC One.
Last year’s Final was won by Arsenal who beat Everton 2-0 in front of a 15,000 crowd at stadiummk, after goals from Kelly Smith and Yukari Kinga.
The decision follows the success of England Women v Germany at Wembley Stadium in November last year, which attracted a record crowd of more than 45,000 supporters.
Kelly Simmons, FA director of national game and women’s football, said: “The FA and the FA Women’s Board has worked hard on bringing the FA Women’s Cup Final to Wembley for some time now and it’s fantastic that we’ve been able to do so for 2015.
“The England v Germany game was such a big moment for women’s football and we wanted to use that, along with this summer’s World Cup, to build momentum across the wider women’s game and so it felt like the perfect time to for the Final to be at Wembley.”
FA Chairman Greg Dyke added “The Football Association is committed to the growth of women’s football and holding the FA Women’s Cup Final at Wembley is another important milestone in the development of the game.
“The Final will be a truly historic occasion this year and we’re looking forward to a great game of football.”
With 18 finals taking place on Sunday, Chairman of the Kent Girls and Ladies league Leigh Wills was pleased so many players got to have their pictures taken with the cup.
“We’re delighted to be given the opportunity to host the trophy at our showpiece final event. It’s been another fantastic season for the league and Sunday was a brilliant celebration of everyone’s hard work. To have the FA Women’s Cup in attendance was an extra special reward for our players, coaches and volunteers.”
