#SKFANCARD: #ENG v #FRA

Who was your England player of the match against France? Did you vote? If not, why not? Did you comment?

The voting has ended and the results are in, though to be honest, it was pretty obvious from fairly soon after the game that three players in particular had impressed you and on definitely stood out.

Your @teamsnap England Player of the Match v France, was CLAIRE RAFFERTY.

With 32% of the vote for 3 pts was Claire Rafferty. She definitely did a job on the pocket rocket that is Elodie Thomis – a player who has caused England so many problems in the past – and it was fantastic to see her performing so well in a world cup, after the rocky journey she has endured to get here.

Both sharing (amazingly) exactly 24% of the vote, were Jill Scott and Lucy Bronze (below) for their battling efforts in midfield.

We asked you for comments, which we will do again for the Mexico game and we’ll tweet some of the best but we reckon you might enjoy having a skim through a selection of the reactions to the England performance – some of you have a wonderful way with words 😀 – made about Tuesday’s game too:

– Good strong performance, quality is there, more to come in future matches!
– Best performance by England in a long time
– Good overall game just needed few more attacking chances
– need to play to our strengths let opposition worry about us and push forward more from midfield
– 100% effort from every player
– Dedicated amazingly hardworking comitted and resilient
– Could of made more goal scoring opportunities but they put up a very good fight
– Tried hard, but bit sloppy in defence and didn’t press France enough when they were defending
– Great strength shown, passing could have been stronger however very confident first game for England
– Disappointing lack of ambition. Played it too cautious, maybe giving France too much respect
– Committed defensively but poor passing. Better than expected, hoping we start attacking more
– Put up a good fight. Could have been a bigger defeat. Ladies worked hard, put in a good performance
– Very diligent, dug deep and nulified France. Lacked a final ball and cutting edge in front of goal.
– Strong Defensive play, would like to see them pushing forward more. Basset was very brave.
– Courageous effort, a lot of hard work but lack of quality in the final third. But a decent start.
– 10/10 for effort and grunt. 2/10 for basic passing, movement and ball retention. We go again
– Too defensive, lack of pace and creativity especially in the final third-disappointing!
– Defense was solid and did a good job of holding the French attack. Need to have better possession.
– England battled very well and were unlucky to concede.
– Very defensive first half but got into the game and pushed forward in the second half
– Not great, lucky to keep it to 1
– Not the best I have seen and Bardsley should not have done better in her positioning for the goal
– Very poor and sluggish
– Largely defensively solid but lacking any attacking threat with Aluko too isolated early on.
– Defence against attack, England lacked ambition and did not press France high up the pitch
– Safe and defensive, not enough risk or attack
– Solid performance, frustrated France, shame punished by a defensive error
– Difficult against probable finalists.
– Pluck, effort but no cutting edge. Good to see 3 strikers on at end – more +ve than Hope Powell!
– Containing with one costly concession of possession
– Poor, ruddy poor.
– Defensive and solid but not attacking enough to worry a quality french team. Good start for future
– Great effort and tremendous work rate. The team will go far.
– Better than expected
– I felt we needed more link play we missed Carney we could have nicked a point from this game
– Disappointing team selection but battling performance
– all fur coat and nae knickers!
– Great effort, tremendous work rate! the girls should be proud, they will go far!
– Encouraging second half , good potential for next game if play attacking football from start
– The team worked hard for each other vs a French side clearly more talented
– Never Looked Like Scoring. Passing Was Very Disappointing, Against A Very Well Organised French Team
– Worked hard, fought together as a unit, stuck to game plan, devoid of any creativity!
– Rafferty & bronze unbeatable duo. J.scott running on Duracell batteries. Thomis frustrated 🙂
– Worked hard, fought together as a unit, stuck to game plan, devoid of any creativity.
– Almost very shrewd. Character: good. Goal concession: bad. Prospects: fair to sunny.
– Strong, disciplined, commited, defensive, energetic,
– They didn’t play well that team I don’t think have played together as a team.
– Solid performance against a top side. Good luck for the next two games!
– hard working defensive display, caught in transition
– Defended well but not enough in attack
– solid but missing the magic touch
– Solid but uncomfortable in possession, uninventive
– They showed how to defend but the manager needs to let them play rather than be rigid and predictable
– Great team effort. Good defending and doubling up. Strong tackles
– Showed hope and potential. Solid defence. Nice passing play. But france were the better side today!
– Disciplined
– Solid defensively, quality in the final third not good enough. Solid basis to improve.
– worked well as a unit although they let concentration at times. Lots of positives to moving forward
– A convincing performance against a strong technical France team.
– Industrious. Need to gamble more
– England lacked good quality accurate passes and movement off the ball. Great defensively however!
– Strong, tough, stable but defensive, attackers were solo and outnumbered, onto the next game England
– Solid defensive performance, few poor passes cost us shots on goal. Great overall result though
– England lacked good quality accurate passes and movement off the ball. Great defensively however!
– Tough, determined, worked hard but off the pace
– more to come i’m sure
– Convincing and hopeful for the rest of the tournament
– Sorry but like I expected shit.Lacked ambition & drive. Only Kirby in the last 3 mins showed promise
– Solid. Unlucky not to get the draw
– Was always going to be a very difficult game but they all played superbly. Very enjoyable though.
– Overly cautious
– committed, resolute, athletic, adaptable, up for it! Well done! Lucy
– Determined but lacked forward expressions and penetration.
– If England’s goal was to limit France’s chances, then despite the loss, it was a success. #onwards
– Good game by England, however they should of started with a different formation, a more positive one.
– Outstanding tactics from Mark Sampson. Plenty to build on for next two games.
– Lots of heart…poor tactics…very limited ideas. admitting losing 0-1 is excellent is a worry
– I think it was a bit negative, we need to believe in our own quality. Need to step it up next match
– Outstanding defence spoiled by careless error to let in the goal. Encouraging, need to attack more.
– Disappointing. Hopefully with this out of their system they can start playing at their best.
– England can hold their heads up high, because they played to the best of their ability 8/10
– passionate, determined, well fought and something to build on for next game.
– Did well but Ftance were the more composed side, built confidence in 2nd half, with more up front.
– Defensively we were tight and organised, Midfield were fluid, no imagination in the final 3rd though average performance good defense. only a few mistakes made, but attacking could have been better.
– Dull, unispiring, uninmaginative and fearful
– Bit edgy at times, would liked to have seen them attack and have a few shots. Very defensive game
– England’s performance was poor the midfield ran around like headless chickens!
– Work woman like, but uninspiring & uncreative – please show more flair & adventure – need to score.
– No attack, Aluko left stranded. Rafferty solid in defence.
– Aluko left stranded, but Rafferty was solid in defence
– Hard working but lacked the cutting edge, need more belief in themselves if they are to step up fear
– More fire power needed although pleased with performance
– Very committed and hard working but ultimately a moment of quality won it.
– Too defence minded not up front option poor
– A very solid performance. I’m sure they will take a lot from this game. No more losses.
– One of the best games I’ve seen them play in awhile, strong defence and seemed to communicate well great platform to build from going forward in tournament
– You cant win defending.Only 4/5 .truly world class players.Inexperienced manager.Bad team selection.
– The girls drew a tough first team to play. They defended well but need to position to make goals
– Powerhouse performance, really stepped up and knew the gameplan, had prepared superbly!
– good but more attacking play needed, 4-2-3-1 next time? nobbs, carney, j.scott & duggan up front pls
– bad team selection.inexperienced manager.sadly 5 international class players cant win.we need 11.
– Outstanding teamwork and defending spoilt by gift-wrapped goal. Not enough in attack.
– Was hoping for a better pushing forward game instead of playing safe. As it didnt work!!
– Defensive, but pleased to be out there watching the game live. COME ON ENGLAND!
– The photoshoots were dealt with superbly.Come time to play wrong strategy no attack.Sad.
– Tenacoius, Tactical, perservance
– Plan A was to keep it to 0-0, no Plan B when this failed.
– Promising second half performance , exciting play once whole team started attacking
– Defensive would like to See Fara further forward
– solid defensively, lacking in attack. Not very creative with the ball but very disciplined without
– good defensively, frigid in attack
– Need to stay tighter and have better quality in the final third, overall well played 🙂
– too defensive but well played against 3rd in world
– Very defensive. Gave the ball away too much, but found perfection in Scott and Rafferty
– Tactically shit.

Slightly harsh comment to end on (understatement, ha ha) but you definitely appreciate the hard work, the discipline and defending on show. Don’t fear there will be plenty more attacking intent from England come Saturday and Mexico time.

Be sure to come back and make your player selections/comments known on our ‘SKFANCARD and there’ll be another prize up for grabs if you tweet it with @teamsnap in the tweet.

Winner of the England shirt this time was @zeetha – CONGRATS!

COME ON ENGLAND! #LIONESSES
