Despite taking an elbow against France, England’s Laura Bassett is still all smiles …
A lot has been made of Camille Abily’s elbow making contact with Laura Bassett’s face, the lack of punishment and that FIFA nor The FA want to take the matter further but she didn’t know too much about it at the time:
“When it happened I was just concentrating on the ball, then I felt something hurt my cheek and thought ‘that’s not the ball’. I didn’t really have a clue, I just knew that it wasn’t the ball that had done this damage and could feel something ‘growing’.”
