BELGIUM v ENG: Post Match Reaction II

It’s England latest Lioness, it’s debutant Millie Bright…

It was a big night for Chelsea’s midfielder/defender Millie Bright as the former Sheffield Utd Centre of Excellence and Doncaster Belles player, made her senior England debut.

Congratulations on your senior England debut! What was it like?
Thank you. It was exciting. It’s what I’ve been pushing for these last couple of months, working hard at my club and having been captain of the U23s, so obviously to get that breakthrough was amazing and to get minutes on my first camp is even better. It is an honour.

Did you know it might happen today?
No. I didn’t expect to get any time to be honest, or even on the bench. Obviously as it’s my first camp I was just taking it all in as an experience.

Impressed with the crowd and the Belgian team?

Yeah I was impressed with them. We knew they were going to be a strong side, so we expected  tough game but we pulled through and got the win.

You knew when you got on that you had a job to do, to be strong and put yourself about a bit!
Yeah, obviously taking it long, last couple of minutes, keep it in front, keep the clean sheet, just do my job, the last couple of minutes.

Do you expect your phone to be full of messages when you get back in the changing room?
Probably, yeah. A lot of family and friends will be messaging, saying how proud they are. So they’ll be happy.

Has it properly sunk in yet?
Not really. I probably will in a few days when I go back home and see all my family.

Bit of a big match coming up in a few days as well?

Yah, Man City at the weekend. Massive game, so straight back and focussed again when I get back to Chelsea.

A big week in the life of Millie Bright!

Yeah, massive!

Is it made a bit easier because there’s quite a few of your Chelsea team mates in the squad?
Yeah, it’s easier coming into this environment when you play against these players week in and week out, so it’s always more comfortable knowing that you know them, but yeah it’s also easier having team mates that you see every day here too.
