Ellie Curson is probably best known for her tough tackling, along with her recovery runs and passing ability, but the Yeovil Town captain has just graduated with a first class honours degree in BSC Hons Sport and Physical Education.
Yeovil Town say that it’s been a busy year for Curson, who as well as being a head coach at the Bridgwater College and Team BC girls development centre, she has also been the programme officer for the new FA WSL Sister Club programme.
So how has she managed to fit all of this in? When asked, Curson commented with “It has certainly been busy, but I like to be busy and I like to achieve things.
“Occasionally things can get a bit stressful, but when you study hard, you also have to play hard and having football alongside my studies has really helped me and kept me focussed.”
Coming through an educational programme herself, where she combined both her football and academic studies when she left secondary school, Curson said “It’s hard at the moment for female footballers to make a long career in football, so to have a good education is crucial.”
Curson added “Our club is lucky that it has in place, an excellent educational programme with Bridgwater College, which can offer a very good football programme, along with an excellent education and I wouldn’t have graduated and had this opportunity in football, if I hadn’t had done this myself.”
Manager Jamie Sherwood commented on Curson’s achievement by saying, “What a role model Ellie is to any young aspiring footballer.
“Ellie commits one hundred percent to everything she does and this sums up the importance of how players must commit fully to something and not to do things half heartedly, in order to achieve things.
“Our club can offer an excellent pathway for aspiring players through Bridgwater College, and I’m sure that those who want to follow in the footsteps of our club captain, will grab this opportunity with two hands.”
