Position By Position: Our New Player Guides

Ever wanted to hear from elite players about their understanding of the specialised roles and responsiblities of their position? Well, thanks to Jazz Hervin, now you can…

We are excited to announce that working in collaboration with Jazz Hervin and a host of top players, She Kicks is bringing to you a new project that will address each position on the football field and reveal what are the key roles and responsiblities, as viewed by elite players.

Based on the knowledge and real experiences of elite players – who generously share their time and thoughts to help you be the best player or coach that you can be – Jazz uses her coaching and communication skills to distil the information into an insightful and handy guide.

First up in the new issue of She Kicks (Issue 37), is the GOALKEEPER. And who better to talk us through her understanding and passion for her position than England and Manchester City’s amazing no.1, Karen Bardsley.

Order the print version (single copy £4) HERE or the digital version (single copy £1.50) HERE.

We hope that you enjoy it and find the series a valuable teaching and learning tool. We’d love to hear from you and what you think of it? Get in touch, email: [email protected] or tweet including the hashtag: #PbP

But first, here’s a bit more information and background about the project (her brainchild), in Jazz Hervin‘s words…

Vision:

To deliver a project that will support and ‘inspire a nation’ (England WNT vision for WWC 2015) of players and coaches, to be the best they can be, at all levels of the game. To improve their understanding of players in the elite game, but delivered in a format that will be effective for all.

How:

The project will include a number of resources that look beneath the surface from what you might see if you go to watch a game or read/listen to an interview with a player. Here you will see that the detail of the resources are unique to the role model as an individual, what they do and what goes through their mind. With these resources we can start to engage young players, by identifying and linking aspects from the resources, to the field during the 90 minutes.

Why:

I believe that in order to build on the Lionesses vision to “Inspire a Nation”, then we need to create more of a link and focus to what goes through young players minds when they see their role models play. The more we can activate the productivity and purposefulness of a young players’ mind, in a conscious way, as well as to enjoy the game, this is when I believe we can help them into an even better place as they progress through their years in the game.
