Blackburn make it back-to-back titles

Blackburn retained the Northern championship with three games to spare after a 4-1 victory at Nottingham Forest, aided by Leicester City Women’s 6-3 success at Middlesbrough.

Rovers trailed at half-time to a Hazzana Parnell effort but Lagan Makin, Jess Holbrook and Natasha Flint all replied before the hosts conceded an own-goal.

Boro twice led but Rosie Axten bagged a brace, Sophie Domingo, Charlotte Greengrass and Nicole Nymoen one apiece toward a 6-2 advantage before the home side got their third.

Guiseley got out of the drop zone on goal-difference with a 2-2 tie against Fylde. Charlie Blythe’s opener was cancelled out by a Fylde penalty from Sophie Charlton, Emily Heckler restored the lead from outside the box but the visitors replied a second time through Emily Hollinshead.

Charlton champions after derby victory

Charlton sealed the Southern title with a fine 4-0 result at local rivals Crystal Palace, Kit Graham with all four goals. She completed her 200th goal for the Addicks in her 207th game.

C & K Basildon got the only goal of the game at Chichester to take the runners-up spot, Hayley West on target on 83 minutes.

Coventry put five past Gillingham, Stephanie Smith, Jade Formaston and Lois Jefferies, Keeley Davies and Maz Gauntlett coming off the bench to add one each.

Lewes were 4-0 winners over Cardiff – Dani Lane striking twice, Rebecca Carter and Georgia Bridges with singles – but the Welsh side are safe following QPR’s loss.

Nearly 400 were at Fratton Park to see Portsmouth hit Rangers 6-1. Samantha Quayle got two, Charley Boswell and Daisy McLachlan one each, Rachel Panting and Emma-Jane May both converting penalties before a consolation from Chontelle Lawrence.

Burton go second

Midlands Division 1 winners Loughborough Foxes hit Sporting Khalsa for six, the goals shared by Victoria Brackenbury, Eva Rogers, Chloe Young, Tiana Hicks, Charlotte Cooper and Laura Steele. Burton lead the race for second after coming from behind to beat Solihull 4-1. Hayleigh Sutton equalised and the Brewers had a spot-kick saved but Jordan Atkin then netted twice and Charlotte Cresswell rounded off the scoring. TNS’s hopes were ended by a draw with Sheffield United. Natalie Froggatt back-heeled the Blades in front and although the Saints turned the game in their favour, Tania Marsden made it 2-2. Radcliffe are up to fourth with a walkover against Steel City.

Brighouse beat Crewe 3-1 to go second, Charlotte Proud with a brace and Jodie Redgrave with one, while Georgina Stebbings had levelled for the Alex. Bolton took the points 3-2 away to Newcastle to close in on fourth spot in their first season at this level.

Sweet sixteen edges MK Dons into first place

MK Dons have replaced South East Division 1 title rivals AFC Wimbledon in first position with a game in hand. Hammering Haringey 16-1, Milton Keynes edged one ahead on goal-difference. Heather McDonnell and Louise Naylor both scored three, Leanne Doyle and Leah Cudone with doubles, one each for Laura Mills, Leah Cudone, Dawn Mallett, Alice Hughes and a Kim Farrow penalty, while Anna Loftus got one goal and a red card. Orient and Stevenage shared four goals, the visitors going seventh with Amy Makewell and Rebecca Scola their scorers. Miagh Downey and Natasha Thomas scored to give third-placed Ipswich a 2-1 win at Luton, Jess McKay pulling one back for the Hatters. Norwich edged Cambridge 3-2 with an 88th-minute Chelsea Garrett effort, despite United having retrieved a two-goal deficit with an Amy Howlett spot-kick and Mollie Coupar goal with her first touch.

Becky Dandridge put the Pilgrims ahead, Gilly Vokes replied and Phil Holden gave the hosts a 2-1 lead on 75 minutes but Zoe Cunninhgam swiftly levelled.
