Linfield Regain Leadership

Wednesday 24th May
DANSKE BANK IRISH PREMIERSHIP

Crusaders Strikers 0-0 Linfield
Glentoran Belfast United 2-3 Sion Swifts

Tight Again Between Crues And Blues

The 0-0 scoreline at Crusaders lifted the hosts put of the bottom two and saw Linfield replace Newry City at the top, with both on sixteen points from seven games.

Just 48 hours earlier, Linfield had also ended up all square with Crusaders at the end of 90 minutes, but beaten them 3-1 after extra-time in the quarter-finals of the County Antrim Challenge Cup.

Swifts Pull Level With Glens

Third-placed Glentoran and Sion are also only separated on goal-difference, after the Swifts came from behind to win 3-2 in Belfast.

Sion’s Amy Boyle-Carr opened the scoring from the spot after a push in the box, with Lauren Wade levelling when beating Naomh Barr from distance.

Kelly Baillie’s free-kick from wide on the right had the Glens ahead but the Swits hit back with a 44th-minute equaliser from Julianne Herrity.

The winner was somewhat fortuitous, as Laura Gillespie’s attempted clearance rebounded off Sion’s Boyle-Carr and over the line.
