Ian Wright and Steph Houghton have named who would be their dream signings for Arsenal Women and Manchester City.

Both Arsenal and Manchester City have strengthened their sides during the winter transfer window.

Arsenal signed right-back Smilla Holmberg, while Manchester City spent £650,000 on midfielder Sam Coffey from the Portland Thorns.

Speaking on the Crossways Podcast, Wright and Houghton discussed who they would like their former clubs to sign in the future.

Ian Wright names his dream signing for Arsenal Women

Ian Wright named Barcelona star Claudia Pina as his dream signing for Arsenal Women.

The former Gunner first considered Trinity Rodman, who recently became the highest-paid player in women’s football at the Washington Spirit.

However, he ultimately chose Pina, who has scored 88 goals in 179 appearances for Barcelona. This season, she has scored 14 goals in 16 Liga F appearances.

He said: “She’s just brilliant. She is the one who, realistically, if Arsenal said ‘Throw us a name’, I would say Claudia Pina, go and get her from Barcelona.

“Every time I watch her, she always does well. She shoots well and makes great runs. She is brilliant.”

Pina was in the final year of her contract at Barcelona. However, the 24-year-old signed a new contract extension until 2029 back in December.

Who did Steph Houghton name as her dream Manchester City signing?

Former Manchester City star Houghton named Pina’s Barcelona teammate Aitana Bonmati as her dream signing.

Houghton hyped up a potential midfield pairing of Yui Hasegawa and the three-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Wright responded: “God, you can’t have those two as that would be unfair on everybody else in the world.”

Houghton said: “I could imagine Bonmati in midfield for City, with Hasegawa and Bunny up top.”

Barcelona star Alexia Putellas was in attendance at Manchester City’s clash with London City Lionesses at the weekend.

Wright said there was “no way” that London City owner Michele Kang is not looking at players like Putellas and Bonmati.

He added: “I would love to see them in this league because as much as I love Barcelona and what they have achieved, I think those players need a longer test in respect of their league.”

Houghton agreed, saying the Liga F is “nowhere near” the level of the WSL. in terms of competitiveness.
