Sonia Bompastor has piled on the praise for Andree Jeglertz ahead of a meeting in the League Cup this week.

Manchester City host Chelsea on Wednesday night in a mouthwatering League Cup semi-final.

Sonia Bompastor praises Jelglertz

Chelsea and Manchester City are the two best women’s teams in England right now and thats a fact.

The top two in the WSL facing off in the League Cup is an added treat for football fans this week and the game could shape the rest of the season for both sides.

There is clearly a lot of respect between Sonia Bompastor and Andree Jeglertz – something that was backed up by the French manager’s press conference ahead of the clash.

“Andrée [Jeglertz] has been able to keep the same philosophy in terms of a team that wants to possess the ball but they are more vertical and efficient in the final third.” Bompastor said.

“The way that they are performing and scoring goals is probably the biggest difference from last season.”

City have been unstoppable in the league, but Bompastor explained why she thinks her title rivals have been so good.

“I’d say that them having one game a week helps a lot in terms of having players fit and available to perform every week and to able to come into every game at their best.

“They have been very good and we know that we are going to face a big challenge.”

For the first time in a long time City are favourites to beat Chelsea this week. The Cityzens do hold home advantage and they are looking to stop the Blues from reaching the League Cup final for the first time in six years.

This week’s game is a rematch of the 2025 League Cup final which Chelsea won 2-1.

Chelsea looking to close gap to City

The League Cup semi final on Wednesday night isn’t just huge for the cup competition.

Whoever wins this week could gain the advantage in the WSL title race this year.

There is currently six points separating City and Chelsea at the start of 2026 but the league is far from over with 10 games left to play.

Andree Jeglertz’ team are in control of their own destiny, but a loss this week could completely flip the momentum.

Sonia Bompastor already alluded to Chelsea’s Champions League campaign. The lack of European football for City could give the team another advantage towards the end of the season.
