West Ham goalkeeper Rebekah Dowsett signs first professional deal

West Ham goalkeeper Rebekah Dowsett has reached a milestone in her career, signing her first professional contract with the Hammers in January.

The teenage goalkeeper could be a future Lioness and West Ham have locked down their talent before any big clubs come knocking.

Rebekah Dowsett signs first professional deal

After breaking through the youth system with Leicester City, Rebekah Dowsett joined West Ham in summer last year.

The teenager has made a good impression during her brief time with the Hammers. West Ham secured their bright talent on a three and a half year deal.

Dowsett is still yet to make her debut in the WSL. The goalkeeper has featured off the bench in seven top flight games for Leicester, but she is yet to be given her shot on the biggest stage.

After signing her first professional deal, Dowsett will now gain valuable experience playing behind Kinga Szemik and Megan Walsh for the struggling WSL club.

West Ham are currently in a relegation battle against Liverpool with only the bottom team facing relegation in 2026.

Dowsett excited for milestone contract

Speaking after signing her first deal, Dowsett said: “I started playing football with the boys in the playground at school so to be signing my first professional deal at the age of 18, and especially at this Club, is a really proud moment. To have my family here with me today makes it extra special too.

“I love being part of the goalkeepers’ union at West Ham. Kinga [Szemik], Meg [Walsh] and Katie [O’Hanlon] are lovely people and I have learnt a lot from them already. Chris [Pipe] has been a really positive influence on me as well – he gives detailed feedback and has helped me to improve on things I need to work on.

“I have the hunger to continue developing as a player and to achieve more. I’m really excited for this next step in my career.”

It is unlikely that Dowsett will feature in West Ham’s WSL squad for now, but the experience she will gain being around a top flight side is invaluable.
