Who is Freya Weeks? Chelsea sign teenage goalkeeper making waves for England youth

Chelsea have signed an exciting teenager from England’s youth setup, with Freya Weeks joining the club as a backup goalkeeper.

Who is Freya Weeks?

Freya Weeks left Ivybridge Community College to join Devon ETC (Elite Talent Centre) at a young age.

The teenager quickly developed through the programme and joined the England talent pathway at just 16-years-old.

At the beginning of 2025 the goalkeeper earned her first contract with a professional team, joining Plymouth Argyle first team.

Weeks earned a dual contract while playing for The Pilgrims. The keeper also signed on for Bristol City where she played her football to start this season.

The teenage sensation earned a first call-up to the Lionesses under-17 squad in September.

For impressive performances with both England youth and the Robins, Weeks has been rewarded with a contract at WSL champions Chelsea.

There aren’t many details about Weeks’ deal but it has been confirmed that she agreed to a two-year contract.

A spokesperson from Weeks’ college said: “Joining one of the top clubs in the world, with such a talented squad, is a huge step in her career and a well-deserved opportunity.

“She has a seriously bright future ahead in the women’s game, congratulations Freya. We can’t wait to see what you achieve next.”

What next for Freya Weeks?

Weeks will play in the Chelsea youth team as she gains experience at one of the best women’s academy’s.

She may not represent the first team just yet, but the exciting teenager is sure to have plenty of contact with Chelsea’s top goalkeepers.

Learning off Yashin winner Hannah Hampton will give Weeks an opportunity to develop her game off the best in the world and she could one day become the England number one’s replacement.
