Why Chelsea have to get off to a quick start against St Polten according to Sonia Bompastor

Chelsea are off to Austria on Tuesday night for their latest Champions League clash against St Polten and Sonia Bompastor is keen to get off to a quick start.

The Blues have picked up four points from their two games in Europe so far this season.

Chelsea wary of ‘well organised’ St Polten

While Chelsea have looked good so far this season, they haven’t quite looked their imperious best just yet.

Tuesday’s game against weaker opposition is a great opportunity for Sonia Bompastor’s side to make a real statement in Europe after a mixed start to their campaign.

However the French manager isn’t taking Chelsea’s Austrian opponents lightly.

“I’ve watched the games that they’ve played in the Champions League this season,” Bompastor said. “St. Polten are a team that are really well-organised in terms of defensive aspects; they’re really compact, they don’t give away a lot of space and they are quite aggressive when they are defending.”

Keira Walsh also expressed during the press conference that there is no such thing as an easy game in the Champions League.

St Polten have lost both of their games in Europe so far this season, with high scoring defeats to Atletico Madrid and Lyon.

Despite their losses, Bompastor still gave plenty of credit to Tuesday’s opposition.

“It is always difficult to break their lines, to break their block and it’ll be really important for us to score the first goal early in the game. We also need to stay patient to be able to open the spaces on the pitch.

“I’m fully-confident that we will create opportunities in this game and that we will be able to score.”

Can Chelsea get back on track?

Chelsea scored four against Paris FC last time out and will be hoping for another comfortable win this week.

The reigning WSL champions dropped down to second in the league last weekend after a 1-1 draw against title rivals Arsenal.

It is crucial that Chelsea get back on track fast with a difficult fixture schedule coming up towards Christmas.

The Blues will be without Yashin award-winning goalkeeper Hannah Hampton on Tuesday.

While Hampton was able to finish the game against Arsenal, she struggled with an injury late in the game and is set to be rested in the Champions League.

Chelsea and Bompastor will be hoping that their number one can return to action ahead of a blockbuster clash against Barcelona next week.
