Liverpool vs Manchester City preview

Gareth Taylor will come up against his former side when Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.

The Liverpool head coach was sacked by Manchester City in March after a difficult end to his near five-year spell in charge of the club.

During his latter months at the club, he had disagreements with Chloe Kelly, who was loaned to Arsenal in January before completing a permanent move in the summer.

Coming up against his former side he will even more desperate for a win, given that Liverpool are pointless in the Women’s Super League after their opening four games.

Liverpool are second-from-bottom in the standings, but have played a game less, after their match with Aston Villa was postponed due to the death of Matt Beard.

Taylor has defended his playing style in recent days, saying it is ‘like my religion’ and also telling Sky Sports that he wants Liverpool to become the best pressing team in Europe.

Life doesn’t get much easier for Taylor though with Manchester City coming off the high of a 3-2 victory over Arsenal.

Since losing to Chelsea on the opening day, Andree Jeglertz’s side have won their last four games, scoring 14 goals along the way.

City will look to maintain the pressure on Chelsea, who sit just one point ahead of them in the WSL standings.

Liverpool vs Manchester City prediction

Gareth Taylor would love for Liverpool to pick up their first points of the season against his former side Manchester City.

However, City under Andree Jeglertz have been very impressive in recent weeks – notably in their 3-2 win over Arsenal.

City will have the big advantage in terms of quality and should walk away as comfortable winners.

Prediction: Liverpool 0-3 Manchester City
