Arsenal vs Brighton preview

The Gunners will be desperate for a victory when they host Brighton at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The Gunners dropped points for a fourth consecutive game in all competitions with their 2-1 defeat to Lyon in the Champions League.

In the WSL, Arsenal have picked up just two points from their last three games after draws with Manchester United and Aston Villa were followed by a 3-2 loss to Manchester City.

Arsenal had hopes of ending Chelsea’s domination of the WSL after winning the Champions League last season.

The Gunners though are already approaching the point where they will need a near-perfect season to beat a Chelsea side who were unbeaten in the WSL last season.

Alessia Russo said Arsenal are in a blip after their loss to Lyon and Brighton have the quality to pose the Gunners some problems on Sunday.

The Seagulls are just one point behind Arsenal but like the Gunners they have suffered two defeats in the last week.

A 1-0 loss to Tottenham was followed by a 2-1 defeat to West Ham in the Women’s League Cup.

Brighton might not be in the best form but Arsenal can ill-afford to make the same mistakes that they made against Lyon, where they conceded twice from giving the ball away while trying to play out from the back.

Arsenal vs Brighton team news

The Gunners remain without Leah Williamson who is yet to feature this season after undergoing knee surgery in the summer.

Renee Slegers could look to freshen things up against Brighton this Sunday.

The likes of Katie McCabe, Olivia Smith and Caitlin Foord could all step back in for the Gunners.

Brighton will be without Michelle Agyemang who is ineligible to face her parent club Arsenal.

That means Carla Camacho, who scored midweek against West Ham, could play up front.

Predicted lineups

Arsenal: Van Domselaar; Fox, Wubben-Moy, Catley, McCabe; Pelova, Caldentey; Smith, Maanum, Foord; Russo

Brighton: Nnadozie; McLaughlan, Hayes,  Rule, Olislagers; Symonds, Cankovic; Seike, Kirby, Kafaji; Camacho

Arsenal vs Brighton prediction

Arsenal Women are looking to avoid going five games without a victory in all competitions against Brighton.

Brighton will take some confidence from Arsenal’s recent record, but they have lost twice themselves this week and will be without star striker Michelle Agyemang.

On home soil, Arsenal should have enough to end their rotten run and return to winning ways on Sunday.

Prediction: Arsenal 2-1 Brighton
