Evie Driscoll-King marked her 100th match for Peterborough United in an unexpected way – with a goal.
She took the penalty that wrapped up a 2-0 win over Sheffield in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands, despite not being the regular spot-kick taker.
“To be honest I think I was only taking the penalty because it was my 100th appearance!” she said to SheKicks.net. “I like to contribute as much as I can but in my position I don’t tend to set targets. The manager knows I can do a job a bit further forward, so there may be times where I get into more goalscoring positions.”
She is being a little too modest. Used primarily as a defender, she can also play in midfield, and the penalty was her second goal of the season – having opened her account in a 5-1 win at Sutton Coldfield, netting from a corner.
In fact, she now has 18 goals in a Posh shirt – not bad for someone whose primary responsibility is contributing towards keeping clean sheets.

She made her debut for the club when she was at university, and says the club has changed a lot since the start of 2022, when she first signed.
“The squad is a really strong one and we have ambitions of getting out of this league and into the next tier,” she says.
They have certainly made a determined start towards reaching that target. So far they have racked up the wins: 4-1 at Notts County, 8-0 at home against Lincoln, and 6-2 at Worcester City in addition to the victories over Sheffield and Sutton Coldfield Town. Their only defeats have come in cup action.
And despite sitting on top of the table with five wins from five – and a goal difference of +21 – Driscoll-King and her team-mates know they need to stay focused.
“We have made a good start, but we need to keep it going,” she says. “In this league, as we know, it is tough because only one goes up automatically, so we have to remain consistent in our performances. We are not getting carried away with our start.”
Peterborough United’s next match in the league comes on Sunday, 12th October, when they host Leafield Athletic at Lincoln Road.
Before then, they travel to Real Bedford of the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier in the FAWNL Cup on Sunday, 28th September.
