Real Madrid vs Eintracht Frankfurt preview

Spanish giants Real Madrid are the clear favourites to advance to the league phase of the Women’s Champions League, as they hold a 2-1 advantage over  Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Spanish giants picked up a 2-1 victory in Germany last week thanks to goals from Filippa Angedal and Signe Bruun.

Nicole Anyomi’s strike for Frankfurt though keeps the German side within reach going into the second-leg at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.

Frankfurt, are one of the most successful teams in the tournament’s history, winning the competition four times.

However, their last triumph came 10 years ago. Real Madrid, the most successful side in men’s history in this competition, are yet to win the trophy in the women’s version of the competition.

Real Madrid have shown progress in recent years, reaching the quarter-finals in two of the past four seasons.

The Spanish side picked up their first league win of the season at the weekend. Goals from Caroline Weir and Alba Redondo handed them a 2-1 victory over Madrid CFF.

Frankfurt enter the game on the back of a heavy 3-0 defeat to Hoffenheim.

Team news

Real Madrid rested several players ahead of Thursday’s clash, including Athanea del Castillo, Sara Dabritz and Linda Caicedo.

That trio should return to the starting fold as Madrid look to defend their 2-1 lead and seal a place in the League Phase.

Hayley Raso returns to Madrid on the Eintracht Frankfurt side, and will be hoping to make her first start against her former club following her summer move from Tottenham to Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Frankfurt squad also includes Amanda Ilestedt, who arrived at the club from Arsenal over the summer.

Predicted lineups

Real Madrid: Frohms; Gomez, Lakrar, Mendez, Holmgaard; Angedal, Toletti, Dabritz; Caicedo, Bruun, Del Castillo

Eintracht Frankfurt: Altenburg; Riesen, Ilestedt, Velt, Luhrsen; Reuteler, Grawe, Senss; Raso, Freigang, Anyomi

Real Madrid vs Eintracht Frankfurt prediction

Real Madrid have put themselves in a strong position to qualify following their 2-1 victory in Germany.

However, there is the risk of complacency, and they will need to go strong against a Frankfurt side who have a good record in this competition.

SheKicks predicts that Real Madrid will kill off the tie early in the second-leg, and win 2-0 at home.

Prediction: Real Madrid 2-0 Eintracht Frankfurt
