Aston Villa vs Chelsea preview

There are no easy games in the WSL and Aston Villa found that out in matchday one.

Villa were held to 0-0 draw away from home against Brighton with neither team able to score despite hitting the post.

Eight-time WSL champions will be a much tougher test for Villa who finished 35 points behind the league winners last year.

Chelsea kicked off their campaign with a tricky fixture against Manchester City but the champions were able to navigate the clash with a 2-1 win.

One of England’s Euro 2025 stars, Aggie Beever-Jones, scored the first goal of the WSL season as she improved on her incredible scoring record for the Blues.

The 22-year-old has scored in 74% of her WSL starts for Chelsea.

Despite a late own goal from Niamh Charles, Chelsea were able to hold on for the win to maintain their lengthy unbeaten record in the WSL.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea team news

Sabrina D’Angelo was forced off with an injury during Aston Villa’s stalemate against Brighton and may not start against Chelsea.

Villa summer signing, Ellie Roebuck, replaced D’Angelo and is expected to deputise for the number one.

Sam Kerr wasn’t able to make her return to action against Manchester City but could feature this weekend for the first time since January 2024.

Sonia Bompastor teased Kerr’s return last week but was left on the bench by the Blues boss.

Predicted lineups

Aston Villa: Roebuck; Patten, Wilms, Deslandes, Grant, Maritz; Kearns, Baijings, Daly; Hanson, Salmon.

Chelsea: Hampton; Bright, Charles, Bjorn, Carpenter, Baltimore; Walsh, Cuthbert; Hamano, Macario, Beever-Jones.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea prediction

Chelsea have never lost to Aston Villa, winning all 14 of their head to head matchups.

With that being said, Villa look a much better outfit this season after recruiting some top stars during the summer.

We think the WSL champions will have an easy afternoon and are predicting a 3-0 win for the Blues.

Prediction: Aston Villa 0-3 Chelsea
