Barcelona Women reportedly face further player departures this summer due to the club’s financial issues.

Spanish outlet El Periodico reported that the women’s team needs €1 million (£867,215) to balance its accounts.

This was to be done by reducing wage bills and selling players during the summer transfer window.

Although the club has done both, El Periodico report that “it is still not enough to correct the deficit,” and therefore more players could leave the club.

It’s said there is concern for the team which is seeing more departures than signings, and with the youth academy being weakened by players joining leagues with “more resources and opportunities”.

Barcelona won the Spanish title last season but lost out in the final of the Champions League to Arsenal.

Seven Barcelona players made the Spain starting XI which lost to England in the Euro 2025 final last month. That includes Aitana Bonmati, Alexia Putellas, Patricia Guijarro, Ona Battle, Irene Paredes, Cata Coll and the club’s only signing this summer, Laia Aleixandri.

Spain are favourites with betting sites to win the tournament at Euro 2029.

Who has left Barcelona Women this summer?

A number of notable high-profile players have already left Barcelona this summer.

Ingrid Engen left the club at the end of her contract, opting to join Lyon over newly promoted Women’s Super League side, the London City Lionesses.

England’s Euro 2022-winning goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck, mutually agreed to terminate her contract with Barcelona and has joined Aston Villa.

Fridolina Rolfo did the same and reportedly could join Malmo after receiving a ‘monster offer’ from the Swedish club.

Bruna Vilamala has completed a transfer to Club America in Mexico, while Martina Fernandez has switched to Everton.

Young players in the reserves, including Judit Pujols, Ona Baradad, Meritxell Munoz and Onyeka Gamero have also left the club this year.

Which players could leave Barcelona?

It was previously reported that nearly half of the Barcelona squad are out of contract next summer.

That list includes Cata Coll, Ona Battle, Claudia Pina, Salma Paralluelo and Alexia Putellas, who all featured during the Euro 2025 final.

Other names on the list including Jana Fernandez, Caroline Graham Hansen and Mapi Leon.

Barcelona have not yet given any indication of players who could leave the club this summer.

However, the club might be tempted to sell those on expiring deals, who look like they won’t sign a renewal.

Barcelona push for FFP rule change

Earlier this summer, reports suggested that Barcelona asked LaLiga to change financial fair play (FFP) rules, with a request surrounding the club’s women’s team.

They asked LaLiga to separate the budgets from their women’s and youth teams from the men’s first team.

LaLiga currently accounts for the budgets of women’s and youth teams within financial restrictions alongside the men’s side.

Therefore, any signing Barcelona Women make affects the budget of the men’s side.
