When are the 2025-26 Women’s Super League fixtures released?

The Women’s Super League (WSL) has revealed the date and time of when the fixtures for the 2025-26 season will be revealed.

Chelsea will look to defend their title next season but could face fierce competition from the likes of European champions Arsenal, Manchester United, and Man City.

The London City Lionesses will play in the top-flight for the first time after their promotion to the WSL.

While a big change for the 2026-27 season could mean that none of the 12 teams in the 2025-26 WSL campaign will be relegated at the end of the season.

When are the 2025-26 WSL fixtures released?

It has been confirmed that the fixtures for the WSL and WSL2 2025-26 season will be released on Friday, July 25th.

The fixtures for both leagues will be published by the WSL and the teams involved at 10am on that date.

This is a similar timeframe to last season’s fixtures which were released on July 22nd, 2024.

When does the 2025-26 WSL season start?

The top two tiers in women’s English football will commence across the weekend of September 6th and 7th.

There will be an earlier finish for the WSL2 which will end on the weekend of May 2nd to 3rd. The WSL season will end a fortnight later.

The winter break for both leagues will run from December 22nd to January 10th.

Dates have also been revealed for the Women’s League Cup. The group stage will begin in late September and run until mid-November.

The quarter-finals are scheduled for December 20th to 21st, the semi-finals from January 21st to 22nd and the final will be held on the weekend of March 14 to 15th.

What teams are in the WSL and WSL2 next season?

The 12 teams that will contest the 2025-26 WSL season are;

Meanwhile, the 12 teams taking part in the WSL 2 include;

  • Birmingham City
  • Bristol City
  • Charlton Athletic
  • Crystal Palace
  • Durham
  • Ipswich Town
  • Newcastle United
  • Nottingham Forest
  • Portsmouth
  • Sheffield United
  • Southampton
  • Sunderland

Changes to the 2025-26 WSL season

It was recently announced that the WSL will expand to 14 teams from the 2026-27 season.

This will affect promotion and relegation to and from the WSL in the upcoming campaign.

Typically, only one team got promoted and relegated between the top two tiers of English football.

To reach 14 teams for the 2026-27 season, the top two teams in the WSL2 will be automatically promoted to the WSL.

A relegation playoff will take place at the end of the season to determine the final team in the 2026-27 WSL season. This will be played between the 12th-placed team in the WSL and the third-placed team in WSL2.

Ultimately, this could mean that no team gets relegated from the top-flight of women’s football this season.

From 2026-27, two teams will be relegated from and promoted to the WSL.
