FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup hosts Costa Rica were watched by over 22,000 in their opening game, while Colombia stunned Germany.

Mariana Muñoz got the only goal three minutes from the end as Colombia pulled off a win against Germany.

New Zealand and Mexico drew the other Group B game, where Carol Cazares’ own-goal was cancelled out on half time by Anette Vázquez.

Alexandra Pinell put Costa Rica ahead against Australia, Sarah Hunter equalised from the spot, with Bryleeh Henry completing a swift turnaround and Kirsty Fenton making it 3-1 in the second half.

Also in Group A, Spain drew 0–0 with Brazil.
