2020/21 Vitality #WomensFACup: Man City to host Chelsea in semis

The 2020/21 Vitality Women’s FA Cup Semi-Finals will see Man City meet Chelsea and Arsenal versus Brighton.

Manchester City 6-0 Leicester City
Birmingham City 0-4 Chelsea
Arsenal 5-1 Tottenham Hotspur
Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 Charlton Athletic

Arsenal overcome early setback

Spurs made a stunning start as Rachel Williams whipped the ball into the far corner from 20 yards in the third minute.

Mana Iwabuchi equalised from just inside the box with less than a quarter of an hour played and the Gunners were ahead via Tobin Heath’s free-kick, Lotte Wubben-Moy’s shot turned into her own net by Asmita Ale.

Nikita Parris crossed the ball into the six-yard box and Caitlin Foord scored the third, it was 4-1 by the interval when aa Anna Patten header was nodded home by Parris.

Lydia Williams got down to deny Chioma Ubogagu a goal back and Arsenal got a fifth in the last 20 minutes, Foord again with the finish this time from a Beth Mead delivery.

Chelsea break Birmingham resistance

Chelsea’s Bethany England put a penalty over the crossbar in the first 20 minutes, following Jade Pennock’s foul in the box.

Substitute Sam Kerr eventually got the opening goal for the visitors, heading home after an hour, Fran Kirby also came off the bench to score from a rebound from the bar and added a quick second.

Harriet Scott was well-placed to reply but lost her footing at the wrong moment, then in added time Pernille Harder directed a header into the far corner.

Shaw hits second-half hat-trick for Man City

Manchester City were held to a goalless first half by Leicester City but struck three times within the opening 15 minutes or so of the second.

Khadija Shaw fired home via the bar, Vicky Losada thumped in the second and although Demi Lambourne made a save from a corner, the rebound went in of Shaw.

Alex Greenwood scored from the spot after a foul on Lauren Hemp, Shaw completed her hat-trick and Filippe Angeldahl then made it 6-0.

Brighton edge past Charlton

Championship side Charlton Athletic kept Brighton out until midway through the second half, when Fliss Gibbons volleyed into the bottom corner.

The Addicks had earlier gone closest as Jess King’s effort came back off the bar.
