Northern Premier – Eleven in a row for Rovers
Blackburn won a seven-goal thriller in the top of the table clash at Huddersfield, despite giving away a 2-0 lead, to go six points clear. Sunderland thrashed Bradford to move into second spot, Keira Ramshaw leading the way with a hat-trick. Stoke took the points 2-1 at Doncaster, the Belles had Georgia Marshall dismissed but still managed to pull a late goal back from the spot. Middlesbrough are sixth after a 5-1 victory over Sheffield FC – in which Holly Manders netted a 25-yard free kick – and are now level on points with Fylde in fifth who went down 1-0 at Nottingham Forest for whom Sammy Conroy scored from the edge of the box.
Southern Premier – Cardiff defeat Hornets
Third-placed Watford lost by the only goal at Cardiff as Cori Williams converted a penalty and the Hornets had Georgie Edwards red-carded in the second period. Portsmouth are up to seventh following a 2-0 win over C&K Basildon in which Eilidh Currie and Jade Bradley found the net. Gillingham put 9 points between themselves and the bottom two with a similar victory over MK Dons, Breon Grant and Alice Bussey with one apiece. The game between QPR and Loughborough was postponed following the tragic loss last week of Foxes’ captain Molly Webb, aged just 25.
Midlands Division 1 – Baggies leave it late
West Brom opened up a six-point lead with a single-goal success at Birmingham & West Midlands courtesy of a late Keeley Davies effort. Nettleham also got the only goal at TNS, Katy Thornley with a long-range strike. Burton are eighth after a 2-0 result at Solihull where Laura McQuilkin and Jordan Atkin netted, Sporting Khalsa beat Long Eaton 2-1 to go level on points with them.
Northern Division 1 – Clarets eight points clear
Burnley’s Sarah Greenhalgh was on target at Chester le Street to send the Clarets eight points clear, as second-placed Barnsley were held 3-3 by next-to-bottom Morecambe. Liverpool Feds had Caroline Charlton sent off 30 minutes in but led 2-1 through Carla Lee and Demi Devereaux before Brighouse’s Abigail Housecroft rifled home to make it 2-2. Leeds rose to fifth thanks to a Rebecca Hunt goal at Crewe, Norton leapfrogged Chorley and went eighth with a 2-1 defeat of the Lancashire side, Biana Owens and Vicky Burton with their goals.
South East Division 1 – Billericay cut gap
Billericay cut Crawley’s lead to 2 points but from two games more after hitting Denham for six, Jay Blackie and Esme Lancaster with two each. Orient sunk Luton 3-0 with Chloe McNee and Camila Pescatore on target. Actonians ran out 5-1 winners over Stevenage as Alessandra Barreca bagged a brace. Cambridge United are ninth following a good 3-0 result over Wimbledon as Jade Bell, Kelley Blanchflower and Mollie Couper shared the spoils, while Enfield’s Lily Bruno got at injury-time goal in a 2-2 tie at Norwich.
South West Division 1 – Pinner keeps Southampton WFC pinned in first place
Emma Pinner’s 22-minute hat-trick helped Southampton WFC win 5-0 at Poole and maintain the leadership ahead of Keynsham, 4-1 victors at Buckland. Cheltenham climbed to third as Eleanor-Marie Briscoe, Annie Martin and Isobel Newns scored their goals at Maidenhead and Chesham drew 1-1 at home to Larkhall with a Gemma Fraser leveller, while Southampton Saints beat Swindon 3-1.
League Cup – Wanderers and Wasps put out Premier opposition
Two ties went to extra-time and resulted with wins over top flight teams by Division 1 opponents. Crawley came through 5-3 at Plymouth where Kemina Webber got three for the Wasps and Bolton eliminated Hull City 3-1 with a treble from Safron Newhouse. Coventry won the clash of the Southern Premier’s top two 2-0 at Chichester, Tash Merritt scored but also saw red and Amber Hughes got the other goal.
